The Dallas Stars announced Friday they have activated forward Adam Erne from long-term injured reserve (LRIR).

Erne will immediately step back into Dallas’ lineup for Friday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks, with Colin Blackwell getting scratched to make room.

Erne, 30, had been on LTIR with a lower-body injury retroactive to November 11th. In just 14 games played so far this season, the New Haven, Connecticut native has two goals and an assist. The Stars signed Erne to a one-year, $775,000 contract just prior to the season after he had joined the team’s training camp on a professional tryout (PTO).

Erne did not play in the NHL last season. He only played 10 games for the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, affiliate of the New York Rangers, on a PTO before being released in November of 2024.

Prior to this season, Erne’s last NHL action came in the 2023-24 season with the Edmonton Oilers, where he registered just a goal and an assist in 24 games. He also played 36 games for the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors that year.

The 6’1″ winger was originally selected 33rd overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. After six seasons in the Lightning’s organization, during which he put up 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 114 games, Erne was dealt to the Detroit Red Wings for a fourth-round pick.

Erne spent four seasons in Detroit, including a career-best campaign in which he notched 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points in just 45 games played, before signing on with the Oilers.

Dallas has had a brilliant season so far. They are one of only two teams, along with the Colorado Avalanche, to have already broken 50 points.

The Stars will finish up a miniature two-game road trip in Anaheim on Friday, before heading home to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday.
