Stars trade Christian Kyrou to Flyers for Samu Tuomalaa

The Dallas Stars have traded defense prospect Christian Kyrou to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward prospect Samu Tuomalaa, the clubs announced Thursday afternoon.
The two players involved in the trade were selected in the second round of successive drafts, with Philadelphia picking Tuomalaa at No. 46 overall in 2021 and Dallas taking Kyrou with the No. 50 pick in 2022.
Both players are in the final years of their respective entry-level contracts and have yet to appear in an NHL game. They will both be eligible to become restricted free agents next summer.

Kyrou, 22, has appeared in four games with the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars to begin the 2025-26 season, recording no points. The 5’10” righty is the younger brother of St. Louis Blues star Jordan Kyrou and has collected 12 goals and 38 points in 97 games over parts of three seasons in Texas.
Tuomalaa, 22, also has zero points through three games with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season. The Finnish winger also stands 5’10” and shoots right, having recorded 26 goals and 75 points in 120 games over parts of four seasons in Lehigh Valley.
The Stars and Flyers have assigned their new acquisitions to Texas and Lehigh Valley, respectively. Texas will look to Tuomalaa to help them get out from underneath their brutal 0-5-1 start, which has seen them score just 10 goals in six games; Lehigh Valley currently boasts a 4-3-1 record through eight contests.
Daily Faceoff prospect guru Steven Ellis ranked Kyrou as the Stars’ No. 5 prospect this past July, describing him as someone who plays “a high-risk, high-reward style game” who “needs to add some more muscle, and improve his defensive reads if he’s going to become an NHLer.” Tuomalaa did not crack Daily Faceoff‘s list of the Flyers’ top 10 prospects.
