Stars’ Jim Nill named 2025 Jim Gregory NHL General Manager of the Year

The NHL announced Friday that Dallas Stars’ General Manager Jim Nill has been named the 2025 Jim Gregory NHL General Manager of the Year.

The award is voted on by NHL general managers and a panel of executives, print and broadcast media after the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Nill becomes the first GM in league history to win the award in three consecutive seasons. He has been voted as a finalist five times in 12 seasons with the Stars.
Nill and Dallas made a splash ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline, acquiring Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes and signing the Finnish forward to an eight-year extension.

According to the league, Nill was named on 37 of 42 ballots as a top-three selection, including 17 first-place votes.
Florida Panthers’ General Manager Bill Zito received 12 first-place votes and finished second in balloting, while Winnipeg Jets’ General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff had six first-place votes.
The Stars finished the 2024-25 season with a 50-26-6 record and 106 points, second in the Central Division, third in the Eastern Conference and fifth overall in the NHL. Dallas advanced to the Western Conference Final for the third consecutive season, and the fourth time in six seasons.
