Dallas Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan announced that center Matt Duchene will miss Tuesday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Duchene has been in and out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury, as he sat out of the Stars’ 5-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks before returning to the lineup for their 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues. The constant back-and-forth is likely just Duchene adjusting to what he needs with the injury and giving it enough rest to fully heal.

The specifics of the injury have not been revealed at this point, likely to avoid any potential targeting from other teams. However, it’s likely not a severe injury considering the fact that Duchene has been playing, and the day-to-day nature of his status.

Duchene initially sustained the injury during the Stars’ 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild last Tuesday, where he took a hit from defenseman Jake Middleton early in the third period. He went to the locker room immediately after the hit, and did not return to the game.

Duchene has gotten off to a solid start to the season, with one goal and one assist for two points in four games. He’s coming off of one of the best seasons of his career, where he had 30 goals and 52 assists for 82 points in 82 games, although that production tailed off in the playoffs with just one goal and five assists for six points in 18 games.

With Duchene out, forward Justin Hryckowian will draw back into the lineup after being a healthy scratch on Saturday. He has no points in four games so far this season.

The Stars will look to snap their two-game slump when they host the Blue Jackets at 7 p.m. CST on Tuesday. Dallas currently has a 3-2-0 record after five games.
