Stars’ Pete DeBoer becomes first North American major sports coach to earn nine Game 7 wins

The Dallas Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 in Game 7 of their first-round Stanley Cup Playoff matchup Saturday, giving them a 4-3 series victory. With the win, Stars’ Head Coach Pete DeBoer improved his Game 7 record as a bench boss to 9-0.

DeBoer, 56, also became the first North American major sports head coach or manager (NHL, NBA, MLB) in history to win nine Game 7 contests.

The Stars will now face the winner of the St. Louis Blues’ and Winnipeg Jets’ Game 7 contest on Sunday.
In 17 seasons as an NHL head coach, DeBoer has compiled a record of 662-447-152 in 1,261 career games with the Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers.
DeBoer has also compiled a playoff record of 88-73 in 161 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. He has led his teams to two Stanley Cup Finals: the Devils in 2012 and the Sharks in 2016. His teams have also appeared in seven Conference Finals: once with the Devils, twice with the Sharks, twice with the Golden Knights and twice with the Stars.
This season, the Stars went 50-26-6 with 106 points, finishing second in the Central Division. Forwards Matt Duchene and Jason Robertson were the team’s top two scorers, wth Duchene finishing with 82 points via 30 goals and 52 assists, while Robertson had 80 points from 35 goals and 45 assists.
