Stars place Duchene, Erne on long-term injured reserve

A couple of roster moves to open up some cap space for the Dallas Stars.
On Monday, the team announced that forwards Matt Duchene and Adam Erne have both been placed on long-term injured reserve.
We have made the following roster moves:
▪️ Matt Duchene (undisclosed) has been placed on LTIR, retroactive to Oct. 18th.
▪️ Adam Erne (lower body) has been placed on LTIR, retroactive to Nov. 11th.
Both moves come with the Stars possibly needing to call up some players from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Texas Stars, before their game on Tuesday night against the New York Islanders, especially with defenseman Ilya Lybushkin being questionable. According to PuckPedia, Dallas had just under $816,000 in cap space. Putting Erne and Duchene’s contracts on LTIR frees up $5.225 million for the Stars to add bodies.
Duchene’s placement on LTIR is retroactive to Oct. 18, a few days after he suffered an upper-body injury against the Minnesota Wild. Duchene has continued to skate and travel with the team at times, but has not returned to the lineup. He has missed the minimum 10 games and 24 days required, so he can jump back into game action whenever he’s ready.
In four games prior to the injury, the 34-year-old scored just a goal and an assist. This is the first season of a four-year contract extension Duchene signed this past June. The deal carries an AAV of $4.5 million through the 2028-29 season.
Erne’s placement is retroactive to Nov. 11. The 30-year-old suffered a lower-body injury against the Ottawa Senators that night, and hasn’t played since. He won’t be eligible to return to the lineup until Dec. 11, when the Stars visit the Wild.
Erne came to the organization on a professional tryout this fall, earning a one-year, $775,000 contract coming out of training camp. In 14 games, he has posted two goals and an assist for three points.
