The Dallas Stars have secured the short-term future of one of their promising young players, re-signing left winger Antonio Stranges to a one-year, two-way contract, which will pay him $775,000 in the NHL and $100,000 in the minors.

Stranges, 23, has yet to make his NHL debut but has played 138 regular-season AHL games, where he has scored 33 goals and 36 assists, all with the Texas Stars across four seasons. Among his standout years is the most recent 2024-25 season, in which he scored 18 goals and a career-high 43 points on a strong Stars roster.

Outside of Texas in the AHL, Stranges also spent a brief period in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads in 2021-22, where he scored four goals and 12 points in 12 games, before fully establishing himself as a regular at the AHL level.

Prior to his professional career, he played for the OHL’s London Knights for three seasons, scoring 63 goals and 159 points in 187 regular-season games, while crossing paths with future NHL regulars, Adam Boqvist and Luke Evangelista, among others.

At five-foot-11, 185 lbs, Stranges initially joined the Stars organization as the 132nd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft, but has yet to showcase the consistency needed to crack a spot on the Stars’ NHL roster.

While the Michigan native will face an uphill battle to make the opening night NHL lineup for 2025-26, he would have to clear waivers to rejoin the AHL squad later in the fall.

However, whichever level of Stars hockey he returns to, he will look to help them past the Conference Final after the NHL team fell to the Edmonton Oilers at that point in 2025, and the AHL squad lost to the eventual Calder Cup champion, Abbotsford Canucks.

The Texas Stars are one of the few AHL teams to have already announced their season opener, set to drop the puck on the 2025-26 season on Oct. 10. Meanwhile, the NHL season begins on Oct. 7, with the schedule to be announced at a later date.
