The Dallas Stars have signed forward Denis Gurianov to a one-year contract extension worth $2.9 million.

The club announced the deal, along with all of its terms, in a press release on Tuesday afternoon. Gurianov was set to become a restricted free agent in need of a $2.9 million qualifying offer this summer.

Gurianov, 25, scored 11 goals and 31 points in 73 games with the Stars during the 2021–22 regular season. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound left-handed right winger did not record a point in five playoff appearances as the Stars fell to the Calgary Flames in the first round of the 2022 post-season.

The Stars originally selected Gurianov β€” a product of Togliatti, Russia β€” in the first round (12th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. He emerged as a full-time National Hockey League player with Dallas in the 2019–20 season.

As a 22-year-old rookie in 2019–20, Gurianov scored 20 goals and 29 points in 64 games before emerging as a more consistent contributor in the playoffs. He amassed 17 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 27 contests as the Stars made it all the way to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.

Gurianov has scored 44 goals and 94 points in 214 career regular-season games with the Stars. He is the first of Dallas’ three major pending restricted free agents to sign with the team β€” the others being left winger Jason Robertson and goaltender Jake Oettinger.

The Stars now have an estimated $14.6 million in cap space to use this summer with RFAs Robertson, Oettinger, and Marian Studenic still left to sign. John Klingberg, Vladislav Namestnikov, Alexander Radulov, Michael Raffl, Andrej Sekera, Braden Holtby, and Scott Wedgewood are the Stars’ pending unrestricted free agents.
