The Dallas Stars announced on Monday afternoon that they have signed defenseman Kyle Burroughs to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season.

The club did not reveal details of the compensation Burroughs would receive under the terms of the contract.

“We are happy to welcome Kyle and his family to the Stars organization,” general manager Jim Nill said via the team’s press release. “Kyle is a player that we know can bring a physical element to the ice and will provide our defensive core with some added depth.”

Burroughs has experience at the NHL level with four different teams, including the Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings.

Most recently with the Kings, Burroughs appeared in 33 games at the NHL level during the 2024-25 season, recording three assists while skating to a plus-3 rating on an average of 7:49 of time on ice per game.

The 30-year-old Vancouver native was at his busiest in the NHL with the Sharks in 2023-24, when he racked up 8 points across 73 NHL appearances.

A seventh-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, Burroughs was limited to just 18 appearances in the AHL with the Ontario Reign during the 2025-26 campaign, but he scored a goal and dished out six assists for seven points in his first run of American League action since 2020-21 with Colorado.

Now, Burroughs will provide some valuable organizational depth on the blue line to a Dallas organization that is tight against the salary cap with just three defensemen making over $1.75 million.

Among the organization’s group on defense set to feature for the AHL affiliate Texas Stars, Burroughs joins Luke Krys as the only other player over the age of 24.

The Stars are looking to sustain their run as a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference after seeing their streak of three straight appearances in the conference final snapped this year.
