Stars sign forward Mavrik Bourque to one-year contract extension

The Dallas Stars have signed forward Mavrik Bourque to a one-year contract extension, the club announced Friday afternoon.
Bourque, 23, collected 11 goals and 25 points in 73 games with the Stars in 2024-25, his first full NHL season. He did not record a point in three playoff contests with the club.
The Stars also announced that Bourque’s new contract carries a $950,000 cap hit for the 2025-26 season. He’ll be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights when his new deal expires.

The Stars originally selected Bourque in the first round (No. 30 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. The Plessisville, Quebec product is a right-handed natural center who stands 5’11” and weighs 181 pounds.
Bourque spent his junior career with the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes before turning pro with the AHL’s Texas Stars in the 2022-23 season. He led the AHL with 77 points in 71 games in 2023-24 and made his NHL debut the same year.
Since being eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2025 Western Conference Final, the Stars have embarked upon major roster reconstruction to change their makeup and ensure they can be cap compliant for the 2025-26 season. After signing Matt Duchene to a four-year extension on Thursday, the Stars traded Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken in a cap-clearing move that evening.
Earlier on Friday, the Stars also signed defenseman Nils Lundkvist to a one-year, $1.25 million contract, but even with Marchment out of the picture, they still have work to do to round out their roster this summer. Right-shot rearguards Matt Dumba and Ilya Lyubushkin could still be cap casualties later this offseason.
Bourque is the second-youngest forward currently projected to play for the Stars in 2025-26 (only ahead of Wyatt Johnston) and has been since the team included Logan Stankoven in its blockbuster Mikko Rantanen deal with the Carolina Hurricanes back in March.
