Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin exited Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres with a lower-body injury.

The incident occurred early in the first period when Seguin and Buffalo Sabres forward Jordan Greenway got tangled up and Greenway’s skate cut Seguin right over the top of his left shin pad. Seguin was clearly in pain and blood was present on the ice as he hobbled off and made his way down to the locker room. He logged 3:21 of ice time, one shot and one hit.

The 31-year-old Bampton Ontario product has registered 42 points (17 goals, 25 assists) in 64 games this season. He ranks sixth among Stars players in the assists column, and fourth in goals. Last season, he notched 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points in 81 games, further adding four points in seven Stanley Cup playoff games. Seguin had missed all but three games during the 2020-21 season after coming off a torn hip labrum which he played with throughout the Stars’ entire 2020 Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He underwent hip and knee surgeries to get him back into shape.

Originally selected second overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins, Seguin won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011 before being dealt in a seven-player deal with the Stars in 2013. The six-time NHL All-Star has appeared in 889 regular season games, totalling 322 goals and 406 assists for 728 points. He is currently in year four of an eight-year, $78 million contract. The contract has a cap hit of $9.85 million according to CapFriendly.
