David Pastrnak named 28th captain in Bruins history

The Boston Bruins have their new captain.

The team announced Sunday that forward David Pastrnak will serve as the 28th captain in franchise history.

Pastrnak will be the first player to wear the “C” in Boston since Brad Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers. Patrice Bergeron wore it before him, while Zdeno Chara served as captain for 14 seasons between 2006-07 and 2019-20.

In 2025-26, Pastrnak finished with 29 goals and 71 assists for 100 points, the fourth consecutive 100-point campaign. He ranked eighth among all NHL skaters in points, and sixth in assists.

According to a news released shared by the Bruins, 16 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees have served as captain for Boston, including nine whose numbers were retired by the team.

Through 13 NHL seasons, Pastrnak, a first-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, has recorded four 100-point campaigns, including 113 in 2022-23. That season, he led the league with 43 even-strength goals and 13 game-winning goals.

In 833 career NHL games, Pastrnak has 420 goals and 513 assists for 933 points. He has also skated in 96 career playoff games, where he scored 42 goals and added 52 assists for 94 points. He was part of Boston’s 2019 Stanley Cup Final run, where he posted nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points.

Pastrnak ranks among the top 10 in franchise history in goals (fifth), assists (nine) and points (sixth). He is the first Bruins skater to record eight 30-goal seasons, and is just one of two players to score 60 goals in a single season while wearing a Boston uniform.
