Denis Gurianov, Jakub Zboril headline Oct. 7 NHL waiver wire
A pair of first-round picks taken back-to-back in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft now find themselves on waivers.
Nashville Predators’ forward Denis Gurianov and Boston Bruins’ defenseman Jakub Zboril, taken 12th and 13th overall respectively, were among the 23 players placed on waivers by NHL teams on Saturday.

Gurianov, 26, spent eight years in the Dallas Stars organization, scoring 46 goals and 57 assists for 103 points in 257 games. He struggled to find ice time in the Stars’ top-six forward corps, eventually being traded to the Montreal Canadiens in February 2023, scoring five goals and three assists for eight points in 23 games with the Habs.
Gurianov was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Canadiens, turning him into a free agent. He signed a one-year deal with the Predators this past offseason.
Zboril, also 26, has spent his entire North American professional career with the Bruins organization. He spent three seasons with the Providence Bruins of the AHL, scoring 11 goals 46 assists for 57 points in 182 games between 2017-18 and 2019-20.
Zboril started to earn time with the big club in 2020-21, but he’s been plagued with injuries and has found himself being a healthy scratch for long periods of time in Boston. He has one year remaining on a two-year contract.
The only player not to clear from yesterday was Gregori Denisenko, claimed by the Vegas Golden Knights after being placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers.
