Switzerland took a massive blow to their lineup on Friday night, as forward Denis Malgin and defenseman Andrea Glauser have left the team’s game against Canada due to injuries.

Malgin sustained an upper-body injury in the game, although the cause of the injury is not known at this point in time. The severity of the injury is also not known, but an update will either be provided after the game or ahead of Sunday’s game against Czechia.
Malgin’s injury must have occurred early on in the game, as he played just 2:28 of ice time across five shifts in the game. That likely wasn’t due to usage either, as he started the game on the second line alongside Sven Andrighetto and Nino Niederreiter.
Malgin has been held off the scoreboard so far in the 2026 Olympic tournament, but had two hits and a shot during Thursday’s 4-0 win over France.
Malgin also has 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points in 41 games with the ZSL Lions in the National League this season.
Malgin had a brief career in the NHL, where he registered 41 goals and 40 assists for 81 points in 257 NHL games across five seasons from 2016 to 2023 with the Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche.
Glauser also left the game, although what kind of injury he sustained is not known. Like Malgin, the severity of the injury will likely be revealed either after Friday’s game or ahead of Sunday’s game.
Also like Malgin, Glauser’s injury appeared to occur early on in Friday’s game, as he only played 5:31 of ice time across eight shifts. He was playing on the top pair alongside Roman Josi, so this also wasn’t an instance of less usage prior to the injury.
Glauser has also been held off the scoreboard in the tournament. That said, he’s not a defenseman known for his offense, as he has just two goals and 10 assists for 12 points in 28 games with HC Fribourg-Gotteron this season.
