The Detroit Red Wings have acquired defenceman Nick Leddy from the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Richard Panik and a 2021 2nd round pick 52nd overall.

Leddy, 30, has spent the last seven years in New York as a decent two-way defenceman and has brought solid offence from the back end. Over the last three seasons, Leddy has played in 198 games scoring nine goals and 78 points.

This past season, Leddy posted a 45.82 CF%, a 50 GF% and an xGF% of 47.9. He is entering the final year of a deal paying him an AAV of $5.5-million.

The Islanders, meanwhile, are acquiring Panik with 50% of his salary retained. Panik now has two years remaining with just $1.375-million owed.

This past year he split time between the Washington Capitals and Red Wings after being acquired by Detroit in the Anthony Mantha deal.

Over the last three seasons, Panik has played in 182 games scoring 27 goals and 68 points.
