It’s been a while since we’ve seen an NHL trade, and this certainly is one.

The San Jose Sharks have traded forward Jasper Weatherby to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for veteran AHLer Kyle Criscuolo.

In a corresponding deal, the San Jose Barracuda traded forward Patrick McGrath to the Grand Rapids Griffins in exchange for future considerations.

Weatherby, 24, is a big 6-foot-4 forward with six points in 36 AHL games last year. The 2021 NCHC champion turned pro later that year and has 21 points in 64 games in two seasons with the Barracuda. His NHL career will end at the end of the season.

Criscuolo, 30, has 10 points in 28 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins this year. He had two assists in six NHL games with the Red Wings last year and had no points in nine games with the Buffalo Sabres in 2017-18.

McGrath, 29, has played 137 AHL games with Wilkes-Barre Scranton, Rochester, Iowa, Utica and the Barracuda. He has nine points and 482 penalty minutes in 137 games, including 42 PIM in five games this season.
