Red Wings’ Kasper, Appleton out week-to-week; Compher out day-to-day

The Detroit Red Wings have had a tumultuous start to their season, and now they’re dealing with multiple injuries up front.
Red Wings forward Marco Kasper will be out week-to-week with an upper-body injury, while forward Mason Appleton will be out week-to-week with an undisclosed injury. Forward J.T. Compher, meanwhile, is out day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.
Kasper, 22, missed Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, so he may have picked up his injury during Detroit’s season-opening 2-0 loss to the New York Rangers on October 2. He went pointless in just under 11 minutes against the Rangers.
The Austrian national, who was selected eighth overall by the Red Wings in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, had nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points in 81 games for Detroit last season.
Appleton, 30, has played in each of the Red Wings’ first two games so far, going pointless while averaging just under 10 minutes of ice time. Last season, his first in Detroit after coming over from the Jets, he notched six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 65 games.
Compher, 31, has gone pointless while averaging just over 14 and a half minutes of ice time over the Red Wings’ first two games. His injury may have occured when he took a huge and seemingly late hit from Winnipeg defenseman Tyrel Bauer on Sunday.
Last season for Detroit, Compher registered 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in all 82 regular season games.
Some good new for the Red Wings on the injury front, is that top-line center Dylan Larkin is expected to make his season debut in Tuesday’s home game against the Ottawa Senators.
After Tuesday’s game against the Senators, Detroit will host the Seattle Kraken on Friday before playing their first road game of the season against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
