The Red Wings should make a big splash at the trade deadline

The Detroit Red Wings have been one of the biggest stories of this NHL season, as general manager Steve Yzerman’s build has finally resulted in tangible on-ice results.
At 31-16-4, the Wings are essentially in second place in the Atlantic Division with the Tampa Bay Lightning tied in points with three games in hand.
With Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin producing like stars and Moritz Seider well within the Norris Trophy conversation, Detroit has the tools to keep up their run and be a threat in the Eastern Conference when the playoffs roll around.
On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and co-host and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discussed what Yzerman can do at the upcoming NHL trade deadline to give his team a chance to compete with the other best teams in the East.
Tyler Yaremchuk: I fully expect Steve Yzerman’s going all in… This is the make or break year for the Yzerplan. I don’t think he’s going to sit on his hands… They’re tied for the top spot in the East at 66 points. He’ll make a big splash, it’s just a matter of what he does. Honestly, I’d love to see him go after one of those guys from St. Louis. You hear about Kyrou, there was a report from The Athletic yesterday about Robert Thomas potentially being available. If you can go get a Robert Thomas and add him to this group, don’t screw around with the rental guys. I want to see Detroit take a big swing.
Carter Hutton: I think that’s the key point, not mortgaging their future. They have something built well, and then you do look at the Atlantic Division, and if you finish 2-3 in the Atlantic… You get a pretty sexy matchup in the first round, right?
