Detroit Red Wings sign Antti Tuomisto to entry-level contract

The Detroit Red Wings have signed defense prospect Antti Tuomisto to a two-year, entry-level contract, the club announced Sunday afternoon.
Tuomisto, 21, recorded five goals and 20 points in 60 games with TPS in the Finnish Liiga during the 2022–23 regular season. He added two assists in three games as TPS fell to Assat in the first round of the Liiga playoffs.
The Red Wings originally selected Tuomisto in the second round (No. 35 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. The six-foot-five defenseman, who shoots right, spent the first two seasons after his draft year with the NCAA’s Denver Pioneers, scoring three goals and 20 points in 59 games.

Tuomisto’s entry-level deal with the Red Wings will take effect next season, although it’s possible he remains in the Liiga for the first year of his ELC. His contract with TPS runs through the end of the 2023–24 season.
With Tuomisto now in the fold, the Red Wings have signed four of their 11 selections in the 2019 NHL Draft (Moritz Seider, Albert Johansson, and Elmer Soderblom are the others). The Red Wings made three picks in the 2019 second round: Tuomisto, Johansson, and Robert Mastrosimone, the last of whom is slated to become a free agent on Aug. 15.
The Red Wings currently rank seventh in the Atlantic Division with a 30–29–9 record and 69 points in 68 games this season. They’ll return to action at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday evening to take on the Florida Panthers at Little Caesars Arena.
