The Detroit Red Wings are bringing back left winger Carter Mazur on a two-year, one-way contract with an average annual value of $875,000 and a salary of $850,00 in year one, before a bump to $900,000 in the second year of the deal.

While the 24-year-old didn’t receive a qualifying offer from the Red Wings after struggling with injuries over the last two seasons, the organization still thought highly enough of him to retain him for the next two seasons, likely on a lower figure than what his qualifying offer would have been.
Last season, Mazur spent 16 games with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, scoring 11 goals and 16 points in 16 games. He also spent eight games with the Red Wings without registering a point, as he still awaits his first NHL goal contribution.
The 70th overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft, Mazur enjoyed two standout seasons with the University of Denver in the NCAA. In his first campaign, he posted 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points in 41 games, before his second and final season saw him contribute 22 goals and 15 assists for 37 points in 40 games.
Outside of his professional and collegiate career, the native of Jackson, Michigan, represented the USA at the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship, where he netted five goals and two assists in seven games.
Expected to join training camp with the Red Wings to start the season, he is most likely to be on the Griffins’ 2026-27 AHL opening roster, with the new season set to begin Oct. 2 and the schedule to be released in the coming weeks. Should he crack the NHL roster, he’d take on the new 84-game regular season.
