Detroit Red Wings sign Tim Gettinger to one-year contract

Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has stayed busy on the opening day of free agency; he announced that the club has signed forward Tim Gettinger to a one-year, two-way contract.
According to CapFriendly, the contract will have an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000.
Gettinger spent the entire 2022-23 season with the New York Rangers American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Gettinger notched 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points in 52 games and added two goals and eight points in nine AHL Playoff games. The 6-foot-6, 222-pound forward skated in eight games with the Rangers during the 2021-22 campaign but went scoreless. However, in the AHL, he collected 25 points in 45 games.
He was originally selected in the 2016 NHL Draft No. 141 by the Rangers. Gettinger spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Soo Greyhounds. He was named to the OHL First All-Rookie Team in 2014-15 after recording 25 points, a plus-10 rating and 13 penalty minutes in 54 regular-season games. He was captain of the club in 2017-18, where he notched 33 goals and 69 points in 66 regular season games and added 22 points in 24 games as the Greyhounds went all the way to the OHL Championship. Gettinger also spent time with the U.S. National Team Development Program.
Gettinger made his NHL debut in 2018-19 with the Rangers, going scoreless in four games. Throughout his NHL career thus far, the Cleveland, Ohio, winger has collected one assist in 16 games. Meanwhile, in the AHL, he has registered 62 goals and 71 assists for 133 points in 237 AHL games.
Gettinger is expected to play in the AHL for the 2023-24 season, with the Grand Rapids Griffins to start the season.
