Detroit Red Wings sign Wyatt Newpower to one-year deal

The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Wyatt Newpower to a one-year, two-way deal.
The 25-year old has spent the last two years with the Grand Rapids Griffins, giving the team a physical presence. Newpower had seven points in 59 games to go along with another 10 last season.
Newpower has 27 career AHL points thanks to a 10-point campaign with Cleveland in 2020-21. Prior to turning pro, the Univ. of Connecticut product spent four years in college, earning top defensive defenseman honors in Hockey East action in 2019-20.
The Griffins came 30th out of 32 teams in 2022-23, easily missing the playoffs. Newpower will likely return there full time in 2023-24 with no NHL games to his credit.
