Red Wings’ Simon Edvinsson out several weeks with lower-body injury

Yzerman added that the team expects him to be ready to go for opening night.
The 22-year-old Edvinsson played his first full NHL season in 2024-25, scoring seven goals and recording 24 assists for 31 points and 67 penalty minutes, averaging 21:07 of ice time in 78 regular-season games.
Through parts of three NHL seasons, the blueliner has 10 goals and 25 assists for 35 points and 83 penalty minutes, averaging 20:19 of ice time in 103 career regular-season games.
Edvinsson, a native of Kungsbacka, Sweden, spent parts of two seasons playing for Detroit’s AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, scoring 13 goals and recording 44 assists for 57 points and 103 penalty minutes in 106 regular-season games. He also dressed in six Calder Cup Playoff games, recording two assists.
Taken No. 6 overall by the Red Wings in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Edvinsson was a product of Sweden’s development program. Through parts of two seasons with Frolunda HC in the SHL, the country’s top domestic league, he recorded two goals and 18 assists for 20 points in 54 regular-season games.
Internationally, Edvinsson represented Sweden on the international stage multiple times, earning a bronze medal at the 2021 World Under-18 Championships, a bronze at the 2022 World Junior Championships and a bronze medal at the World Championships in Denmark last spring.
The Red Wings went 39-35-8 with 86 points in 2024-25, finishing sixth in the Atlantic Division and falling five points short of the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
