A recently acquired player has signed on with the team in the Garden State.

On Monday, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced the team had signed forward Adam Beckman to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal carries a $775,000 AAV at the NHL level, with a minor-league salary of $125,000. $150,000 of the contract is guaranteed.

Beckman is coming off his entry-level contract, which had an AAV of $894,167.

The Devils acquired Beckman’s signing rights on June 21 in a trade that sent the 23-year-old from the Minnesota Wild to New Jersey in exchange for Graeme Clarke.

Beckman was originally a third-round pick by the Wild, as he was taken 75th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. The following season, he scored 107 points for the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs, earning the Bobby Clarke Trophy as the league’s leading scorer, and won the Four Broncos Trophy for player of the year.

The Saskatoon native jumped to pro hockey during the 2020-21 season. Since the 2021-22 campaign, Beckman has gone back and forth between the Wild and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Wild, spending most of his time in the minors. This past year saw him play a career-high 11 games with Minnesota, notching two assists.

In 51 games with Iowa, Beckman totaled 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points, just a few off his 36-point performance during the 2022-23 season.

Beckman has played just 23 games in the NHL, registering three assists. In 181 AHL appearances, he scored 57 goals and 51 assists, making his Calder Cup Playoff debut in the spring of 2023.

With the signing, the Devils now have 47 of a possible 50 standard player contracts on the books for next season. New Jersey has a projected cap space of $6.765 million for the 2024-25 campaign.
