Devon Levi has stepped up for the Oilers so far

The start to the 2026-27 NHL season has been exceptionally mixed for Edmonton Oilers goaltender Devon Levi, but it’s trending in the right direction.
After suffering between the pipes by allowing seven goals on 22 shots in a 9-7 win over the Vancouver Canucks, he’s levelled up, allowing only three goals on a combined 51 shots in wins over the Seattle Kraken and Anaheim Ducks.
On a recent episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, co-hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goalie Carter Hutton broke down Levi’s improved play and whether he is a bright hope in the crease for the Oilers moving forward.
Tyler Yaremchuk: But let me shine a light on Devon Levi, who, after getting lit up in his first start in that 9-7 win against the Vancouver Canucks, has delivered two beauty performances for the Edmonton Oilers.
Carter Hutton: I think the biggest takeaway for me is that he’s still a pretty young kid in this situation. I know he’s been pro, and he’s been there. Like, you win a game 9-7 against the Vancouver Canucks, this could really go one way or the other. I think mentally, it just shows his maturity to park it, throw that game away, move forward, and now he’s back, right? I think that’s just something that is very important.
Then you look back at where he was. Was it just the fact that the Buffalo Sabres probably wanted too much too soon from him? He was in a situation where, maybe, if he had been a little more protected, he could have been better. I always think about how I was 26 when I really was full-time, but I had Pekka Rinne to play with, so I was insulated.
It was like if you had a bad game and you got two weeks to sit on it, rest, get better and work on it. So the factor for me, I think, is that he’s going to have to continue to grow and get better because this is always going to be the underlying character. If he does have a bad game, he’s going to be questioned. Is his game gone because of history with the Oilers, the Jekyll-and-Hyde of Stuart Skinner, and the way Jarry’s season went last year?
