Disappointing road trip sparks even more questions for New Jersey Devils ahead of NHL Trade Deadline

Following the New Jersey Devils’ road trip from hell, Frank Seravalli has listed Tyler Toffoli at No. 6 on his trade targets board. Seravalli gives his insight into why the Devils should cash in on Toffoli’s 26-goal campaign and Stanley Cup experience.
Tyler Yaremchuk: One name that moves into your trade targets is Tyler Toffoli of the New Jersey Devils, he doesn’t just move into it he rocketed up to the No. 6 spot on your board, what’s the latest with Toffoli and the Devils?
Frank Seravalli: Yeah so he goes from 44th all the way to up to No. 6 and the reason for that is the disastrous Devils road trip. It would be fun to argue which road trip was worse, the Devils or the Pittsburgh Penguins and the way that the Devils went out with a whimper in Los Angeles and it’s not just the teams they lost to but the quality of competition. Throughout the trip through western Canada for the Penguins you could say “Well they played a few good teams that’s what happens” So the Penguins had their back-breaking loss to the Flames and for the Devils, it was against Anaheim and then really were crushed by the Kings and couldn’t create much.
Frank Seravalli: So, they come back to New Jersey and I think it’s time to ask serious questions about the status of the team and their playoff chances this year. Since they’re probably not in a position to be adding and they’re not winning with Toffoli they might as well cash in on a 26-goal season for someone who is clutch, has Stanley Cup experience and is on an expiring contract that certainly isn’t offensive. They’re going to be in a spot where GM Tom Fitzgerald looks at the next two games before the deadline and makes that determination officially but it seems to stand to reason that Toffoli is available and the Deicls have to consider anything that comes down the pike.
