For a Buffalo Sabres team that has so many talented prospects and high expectations, the 2023-24 season has been a letdown.

Following their 9-4 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, the Sabres are 13-17-3 in their first 33 games, good for 29 points and seventh place in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division.

On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Colby Cohen and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Sabres’ tough loss and if it’s time to make a change behind the bench.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Usually they’re chanting “Let’s go, Buffalo!” but lately it’s more like “Uh-oh, Buffalo,” as the Sabres just can’t seem to get any traction. They lost 9-4 to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night — the Columbus freakin’ Blue Jackets, Colby — it is just getting uglier and uglier for the Sabres.

I don’t know what they should do. I understand their commitment to Don Granato as the head coach, but it’s looking like another wasted season in Buffalo.

Colby Cohen: It’s a fair question to ask, Tyler, as we’ve seen four coaches removed from their jobs, already. This loss happened on home ice, as well. They should beat up on Columbus. I went back and watched the game this morning, and I think it starts in goal. Devon Levi was sent down to the AHL and brought back up, played a few good games, but last night, he didn’t look like an NHL goaltender.

Owen Power was minus-four last night, and it felt like he was on the ice for every goal against. When you watch the way this team defends, their gaps are not good, their defense backs in, they’re giving up the blue line. If you give forwards time and space, they’re going to hurt you.
