Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty left Thursday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers and did not return due to a lower-body injury.

The Kings announced the reason for Doughty’s departure midway through the third period of Thursday’s game at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Doughty, 36, logged 15:15 of ice time over 14 shifts before leaving the game. The 6’1″ defenseman has three goals and 14 points while averaging 22:48 of ice time through 50 games this season; he’s signed through the end of the 2026-27 campaign at an $11 million annual cap hit.

The Kings lost to the Oilers by an 8-1 score after a full 60 minutes of play on Thursday evening. They also lost forward Joel Armia to an upper-body injury earlier in the game.

Doughty most recently suited up for six games with Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, collecting one assist to help the Canadians win a bronze medal. The London, Ontario product previously represented his country at the 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025, as well as the Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2014.

The Kings originally selected Doughty with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft. The veteran defenseman is currently in the midst of his 18th season in Los Angeles, with the Kings currently sitting just outside the playoff picture in the Western Conference.

Doughty made the jump from the OHL’s Guelph Storm to the Kings immediately after being drafted and wasted little time in establishing himself as one of the premier defenders in the league, becoming an Olympian at age 20 and winning the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014. He captured the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman in 2016.

Through 1,257 career games with the Kings since 2008, Doughty has collected 163 goals and 700 points. He’s added 19 goals and 61 points in 101 career playoff contests.
