Some nuggets are worth their weight in gold. This one happened to be worth a 10-minute misconduct.

Right before a faceoff during an ECHL game between the Toledo Walleye and the Kalamazoo Wings on Wednesday morning, a child threw a chicken nugget onto the ice. Walleye forward Kirill Tyutyayev decided to shoot the piece of poultry back into the crowd.

Tyutyayev, a 2019 seventh-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings, was issued a 10-minute misconduct for his efforts.

“Something gets thrown onto ice at a morning kids game in Toledo and Tyutyayev shoots it back into crowd,” said Justin A. Cohn, a senior writer for The Journal Gazette, a newspaper based out of Fort Wayne, Ind. and a co-host of The Hockey News’ THN on the ‘E’ Podcast. “Gonna be interesting to see if league gives supplemental discipline. It’s pretty vanilla, but they don’t like shooting into stands.”

The Wings won the game 6-2, with Kalamazoo defenseman Kurt Gosselin scoring a goal and two assists in a three-point effort. Meanwhile, Tyutyayev finished the night with 10 penalty minutes and a minus-one on the scoresheet.

Through 17 games with the Walleye this season, Tyutyayev has one goals and six assists for seven points.

Last season, Tyutyayev split his time between the Walleye and the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Through 31 ECHL games, Tyutyayev scored eight goals and 39 assists for 47 points. In 30 games in the AHL, Tyutyayev had two goals and three assists for five points.

The Walleye are 11-4-3 on the season, while the Wings are now 8-11-0.
