The Edmonton Oilers are going to be without a veteran for at least one night in these playoffs.

When speaking to the media on Tuesday, head coach Kris Knoblauch revealed that forward Adam Henrique will not be in the lineup for Game 2 of the Oilers’ Pacific Division Semifinal against the Anaheim Ducks.

It comes less than 24 hours after Henrique had a premature end to the opening game of the series on Monday night. In the first period, the 36-year-old got tangled up with teammate Kasperi Kapanen, leading to Henrique falling awkwardly to the ice. The center seemed to be clutching his ankle before requiring assistance to get off the ice. He would not return the game.

Henrique registered just 2:56 of ice time across six shifts in Game 1, posting a shot on goal. Edmonton was able to do fine without him, rallying back from a one-goal deficit in the third period, using a late marker from Kapanen, his second of the game, to nab a 4-3 victory.

Henrique had been playing on the fourth line, meaning Knoblauch might have to insert Josh Samanski to fill the hole in the lineup.

This isn’t the first time the Brantford, Ont. native has missed time this season. An undisclosed injury knocked him out of action for well over two months, causing Henrique to miss 17 games. In 65 appearances this year, he scored three goals and 12 assists for 15 points. It was his least amount of production in a single season since the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign.

In 68 career playoff games, Henrique has scored 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points.

Game 2 between the Oilers and Ducks is set for Wednesday night, with puck drop scheduled for a little after 10 p.m. ET.
