Oilers got some much-needed bounces in comeback win

While the first month of the 2025-26 season hasn’t been ideal for the Edmonton Oilers, there might be some life after a hard-fought victory on Monday night.
Just a couple of days after the team was shellacked by the Colorado Avalanche, 9-1, the Oilers had to battle back to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, with Jack Roslovic scoring the game-winning goal in overtime, securing a 5-4 victory.
The win snapped a three-game losing skid for Edmonton, and a stretch of games that saw the team lose four of five matchups. While it might just be one win, it can be a stepping stone to help turn the tide after what was another rough opening few weeks of the year.
On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton break down what helped the Oilers rally to beat the Blue Jackets.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Edmonton did not deserve that hockey game against Columbus, but they got two world-class goals from Connor McDavid, a lucky bounce, some timely saves from Stuart Skinner, and, I mean, Stuart Skinner, that’s about the best looking .789 save percentage game I think I’ve ever seen. He stopped a couple of great opportunities, big one in OT. So, the Oilers, as well, after the 9-1 drubbing on the weekend, got in the win column.
Carter Hutton: It felt like almost a must-win. … Some timely saves. You have a world-class player like Connor McDavid, puts his team on his back and that’s a lucky bounce. You talk about the tying goal, shorthanded, Walman’s just trying to center it, force it over to Leon Draisaitl, it goes off a stick and in? Those are the breaks you get if you’re playing good hockey and you’re generating, bounces go your way, and that might just be one that starts to turn the tide a little bit in Edmonton.
