Elliotte Friedman believes the Sabres want to move on from Jack Eichel

There’s been plenty of speculation this year that Jack Eichel wants out of Buffalo. For the first time, we’re now hearing that the Sabres also want to move on from their captain.
Back in May, word came out that there was a growing disconnect between Eichel and the Sabres that stemmed from how the former No. 2 overall pick’s neck injury has been handled. Eichel’s saying “I think the most important thing is just trying to get healthy and (figuring) out a way to be available to play hockey next year, wherever that might be” was a very damning statement.
On Thursday morning, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman appeared on Buffalo radio show “The Instigators” and said that he believes the Sabres are ready to move on from Eichel.
“That’s the poker game they’re playing right now,” Friedman said. “Other teams are saying you’ve got an unhappy player who doesn’t want to come back. The Sabres, I really think at the end of the day, want to move on. They don’t want him back, they want to move on.
“People are saying [to Sabres’ general manager Kevyn Adams] you’ve got to trade him, you’ve got to trade him. Adams has got to convince them and say not so fast. Adams has to create the marketplace.”
