Evander Kane handed one-game suspension for cross-check

Kane received a five-minute major and a game misconduct after cross-checking Pierre-Edouard Bellemare in the face during the third period of Thursday’s loss in Game 1. The Sharks were down 5-0 at the time and gave up two more goals while Kane was serving his penalty.

The former Sabre has been suspended once previously in his NHL career. He received a two-game ban in 2014 when he was with the Winnipeg Jets for boarding Ducks’ defenceman Clayton Stoner.
Kane is participating in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in his career, where he registered three goals and an assist in San Jose’s opening-round sweep of Anaheim.The power forward is known for playing with an edge and racked up 82 PIM during the regular season.
Kane was moved by the Sabres at the trade deadline and has immediately made an impact in San Jose. He racked up nine goals in 17 regular-season games with his new club and became a staple in the top-six and on the power play.
The Sharks will be looking for a bounce-back effort in Game 2 and will have to do so without one of their top offensive players. The pucks drops on Saturday at 8:00 PM EST.
