The Columbus Blue Jackets’ future is up in the air with their general manager position still vacant, but it’s very clear that changes need to be made within the team. They have a young group loaded with talent, but a lot of the older players have left a lot to be desired, and if anything are just taking away opportunities from their younger players (with no help from head coach Pascal Vincent).

So with a new regime on the way, will the Blue Jackets look to move on from some of their veterans to change up the team? Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk talked about if that should be the case on Daily Faceoff Live.

Frank Seravalli: It’s hard to answer that not knowing who that would be and what their level of aggression would be in trying to reshape things. But I think you’d have to say that really just about everything is on the table because, outside of their young guys that you’re trying to build around, what they have hasn’t worked. You haven’t won with these guys. I’d imagine someone like Zach Werenski is going to be safe, but short of that, I know John Davidson made a definitive statement about Boone Jenner, I think they should consider everything.

Tyler Yaremchuk: They should absolutely be considering everything in Columbus. There’s an interesting group of young talent there, and I feel like this isn’t a team that needs four or five years to get back to the promised land. I think if you play your cards right as those young guys get better, surround them with the right pieces, I think Columbus is maybe two or three years away from getting into the playoffs.

Frank Seravalli: Yeah, I don’t even know that it needs to be that long. I really believe in the forwards that they’ve got assembled in Adam Fantilli and Kent Johnson, and you go through that group and then on defense with Denton Mateychuk and David Jiricek, and I especially like what we’ve seen from Kirill Marchenko. I think they’ve got some interesting pieces there that have got a lot more to give like Cole Sillinger and Yego Chinakhov. There’s a lot there, it’s just that they need help. These guys aren’t going to be able to do it on their own.
