Fantasy Hockey: Daily Goalie Rankings – 10/14/22

Trying to decide which goalies to start is a dilemma that Fantasy Hockey owners face daily.
We here at DailyFaceoff try to make being a Fantasy Owner as easy as possible. Each day, we will rank the day’s starting goalies based on their Projected Win%, Goals Against Average, and SV%. Win percentage and expected goals against are generated from Sportsbooks Odds and Implied Totals.
In addition to the Starting Goalies Rankings table, we will have a write-up about the best streaming options for that day (if any).
Goalie Rankings

Streaming Targets 🎯
With no games on Sunday and a heavy 14-game slate on Saturday, Friday night may be your last chance to steal a few goalie categories as some fantasy leagues close out their opening week of hockey.
Jake Allen (MTL) – 23% Rostered
Allen makes a mid-tier streaming option if you’re desperate, as he is available in over three-quarters of Yahoo leagues and will be facing what should be a bottom half of the league team in the Detroit Red Wings. Allen is coming off a massive 4-3 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he stood tall, stopping 29 of 32 shots (.906 SV%) on his way to his first win of the year. However, he makes a risky pick as the Canadiens are still in rebuild mode regardless of their opening fluke result, with Allen only collecting 20 wins across 62 Starts in the previous two seasons while not topping a .907 SV% during the same span. One win doesn’t change anything, this is still a team that’s rebuilding, and Allen will be a risky option almost every time he takes the crease. With that said, he’s one of two goalies that are widely available on the waiver wire and the sportsbooks give at least a 40 percent chance at winning tonight.
Jaroslv Halak (NYR) – 5% Rostered
Halak is the better of the two streaming options Friday night as he will make his Rangers’ debut for a team that has scored 10 goals through their first two games against top-end talent (Tampa Bay & Minnesota). The 16-year veteran saw limited action in 2021-22 with the Vancouver Canucks, posting four wins, a .903 SV% and 2.94 GAA before ending his season early with an injury. At 37 years old, he should benefit from playing behind a very good Rangers team and will be an intriguing spot-start option more often than not. He draws a tough matchup in Winnipeg, but if you’re trailing in the goalie categories, he’s worth the gamble.
