Trudeau’s contract is set to begin in the 2026-27 season. The Blues also announced that he has signed an AHL professional tryout contract, which will allow him to play out the rest of the season with their minor-league affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.
Beyond those details, not much is known about Trudeau’s contract, particularly the cap hit. As per the collective bargaining agreement, the salary will fall in the range of $850,000 and $1,025,000, but the specific number has not been reported. The contract will also obviously be a two-way contract, but there has been no confirmation on his AHL salary for either the 2026-27 season.
Trudeau is coming off a career-best season in the NCAA with Sacred Hearts University, setting career highs with 25 goals and 48 points in 39 games, as well as tying his career-best of 23 assists. He built off of a strong first season with Sacred Hearts in 2024-25, where he had 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points.
Trudeau’s performance also received some recognition, as he was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award given to the top men’s player in the NCAA. Trudeau was one of four players not drafted to the NHL to be named a finalist, although Gavin McKenna is the only of the four who has yet to be eligible for the draft, and will be this summer.
Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis had this to say about Trudeau:
“Trudeau has a solid frame and dominates the competition whenever he needs to use his brute strength to win a physical battle. He loves having the puck on his stick, and he’s always looking to do what it takes to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Defensively, there’s still work to be done – Trudeau can be caught watching the play a little too often. If he can improve his top speed, he’ll have a shot at an NHL career. But this is still a win for the Blues, given Trudeau should be able to play an important scoring role in the AHL immediately next season.”
