Hockey Canada released a statement regarding Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP’s final report into the allegations surrounding the 2018 world junior team, saying that players have appealed the ruling.

According to the release, Hockey Candaa said an independent adjudicative panel “was tasked with holding a hearing with a view to determining whether certain members of the 2018 National Junior Team breached Hockey Canada’s code of conduct, and if so, what sanctions should be imposed against those players.”

Results from the findings can’t be shared now while the appeal is ongoing.

The news comes in the wake of the scandal involving 2018 World Junior Championship team members that has been linked to sexual assault allegations. Hockey Canada has been under fire for handling the allegations, with the organization and the London, Ont. police reopening their investigations. A woman alleged she was assaulted by eight team members during a Hockey Canada Foundation gala in 2018.

Hockey Canada has continued to host events since the allegations became public in 2022, including the summer world juniors in Edmonton, the 2023 edition in Halifax and Moncton and the women’s World Hockey Championship in Brampton this past April.

“Hockey Canada has cooperated fully with the London Police Service throughout its investigation and we are committed to continuing to support the legal process,” a statement read. “We confirmed with the London Police Service in advance that an announcement concerning the independent adjudicative panel will not affect its investigation.”

Players involved with the 2018 team still remain suspended from Hockey Canada teams and other events sanctioned by the organization.

Canada is currently ranked first overall in both the men’s and women’s IIHF world rankings. The nation won gold at the 2022 and 2023 world juniors, 2023 women’s U-18 World Championship and the 2023 men’s World Championship, among other events.
