The Calgary Flames have acquired forward Ryan Carpenter from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Heading back to Chicago will be a fifth-round pick in 2024, according to Frank Seravalli.

An undrafted free agent out of Bowling Green State University, Carpenter made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks in 2015. In 2017, the Golden Knights selected Carpenter off waivers from the Sharks and he played 17 games with the team during their run to the Stanley Cup final.
After another season in Vegas, Carpenter inked a three-year, $3-million deal in free agency with the Blackhawks. That contract is coming to an end after this season and Carpenter will again be eligible to hit the open market as a free agent.
Through those three seasons in Chicago, Carpenter totalled 10 goals and 31 points over the course of 168 games. He has 11 points in 59 games this season.
The Flames also acquired Tyler Toffoli and Calle Jarnkrok ahead of this year’s trade deadline. Carpenter figures to be center depth for the Flames, who currently have Elias Lindholm, Mikael Backlund, Jarnkrok and Sean Monahan playing down the middle.
