The Calgary Flames announced on Saturday that goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been placed on injured reserve. The team also announced that forward Matt Coronato has been recalled from their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers.

Coronato was selected 13th overall by the Flames in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. After spending two seasons playing college hockey with the Harvard Crimson, Coronato signed a three-year, entry-level contract and played a game with the Flames towards the end of the 2022-23 season.

The 21-year-old winger has split his 2023-24 season between the Flames and Wranglers. In 10 games with the big club, Coronato has one goal and one assist for two points. He scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 14 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the AHL, Coronato has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points through 14 games. The Huntington, N.Y. native ranks fifth in scoring among rookies in the AHL, while his 1.29 points-per game are second-best in the rookie class.

Markstrom, 33, was ruled week-to-week with a fractured finger on Dec. 5, forcing the team to recall Dustin Wolf from the Wranglers. The team said surgery would not be required.

The Swedish netminder is in his fourth season with the Flames, recording a 6-8-2 record with an .896 save percentage in 16 appearances in 2023-24. He has an 88-63-25 record in 181 appearances across four seasons with Calgary.

Through his 14 NHL seasons with the Flames, the Vancouver Canucks and the Florida Panthers, Markstrom has a 198-181-57 record with a .909 save percentage in 453 appearances.

The Flames host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday afternoon. Puck drop is at 4 p.m. EST/2 p.m. MST.
