Another championship for the Sunshine State has led to another incident involving Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Following the Florida Panthers’ victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night, lifting Lord Stanley for the second year in a row, it was noticed that something had happened to the silver bowl atop the most beautiful trophy in all of sports.

While it hasn’t been specified when the trophy was damaged, a noticeable crack was seen on the side of the bowl.

While there were no reported incidents from last year’s celebrations, that doesn’t mean this will be the last time something happens to the silver trophy this summer, as players and staff from around the Panthers organization party with the Cup.

This is far from the first time the Stanley Cup has suffered an injury, let alone it happening almost immediately after it has been handed to the winning team. Just three years ago, after the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning to win the franchise’s third Cup, Nicholas Aube-Kubel was trying to bring the Cup to the team picture, but tripped on his way to the pile.

The history of the Stanley Cup getting damaged is long and legendary. From the 1924 Montreal Canadiens leaving it on the side of the road after changing a flat tire, to the Ottawa Senators ‘Silver Seven’ drop-kicking the original bowl into the Rideau Canal in 1905, weird things have happened when celebratory antics reign supreme.

According to a story from the Wall Street Journal, while celebrating the Dallas Stars’ victory in 1999, Guy Carbonneau attempted to throw the Cup off the deck of the late Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul’s house and into the pool. It ended up falling short and nailing the lip of the pool.

Thankfully, the hollowed-out trophy floats, as many players have taken Lord Stanley for a swim during the hot days of summer.
