The Florida Panthers will be without Mackie Samoskevich for Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues, as the forward has been listed by the team as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

How Samoskevich sustained the injury is not known, as even the report posted on the Panthers’ website mentioned that they don’t know the cause of the injury. He last took a shift in Friday’s 4-3 shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes with 4:43 left in the third period, which is a reasonable enough time for a last shift in a game which the Panthers trailed by two goals and deployed their top offensive weapons in an attempt to tie the game. It’s possible that he still sustained the injury in the game and played through it, only realizing in between games that rest was needed.

As of right now, all that is known about Samoskevich’s timeline for return is that he is day-to-day. The Panthers play again on Tuesday, but don’t play after that until next Saturday due to the Christmas break, so it’s possible that Samoskevich gets the whole week off as a reset.

Samoskevich has taken the next step in his game that many expected with a more consistent role amidst an injury-riddled Panthers squad, as he has four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 34 games. Assuming that he only misses Saturday’s game, he’s on pace for 40 points this season, which would best his previous career high of 31 points set last season.

At this point in time, the lineup for the Panthers in the wake of Samoskevich’s injury is not confirmed. Jack Studnicka was the team’s only forward healthy scratch, so he will likely draw into the lineup, but it may not be on the third line with Evan Rodrigues and A.J. Greer.

The Panthers currently sit in second in the Atlantic Division with a 19-13-2 record. They will look to build off of their stretch of seven wins in the last eight games when they host the Blues at 6 p.m. EST.
