The Florida Panthers announced Thursday they agreed to terms with defenseman Tobias Bjornfot to a one-year, two-way contract through the 2025-26 season.

The 24-year-old Bjornfot played in 14 games with the Panthers in 2024-25, as well as 50 games with their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, scoring three goals and 15 assists for 18 points.

Taken No. 22 overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, Bjornfot has one goal and 14 assists for 15 points in 134 career regular-season games with the Panthers, Kings and Vegas Golden Knights.

He’s also played in parts of five AHL seasons, scoring 14 goals and 35 assists for 49 points in 159 career regular-season games with the Checkers, Henderson Silver Knights and Ontario Reign.

His most productive professional season came in 2019-20 with the Reign, scoring six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 44 regular-season games.

Before moving to North America, Bjornfot spent time in Sweden’s junior league with Djurgardens Jr. In 81 games, he scored 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points. He also played in 22 Swedish men’s league games, scoring one goal and two assists for three points.

Internationally, Bjornfot represented his native Sweden on multiple occasions, including twice at the World Junior Championships, earning bronze in 2020. he also helped Sweden win a gold medal at the World Under-18 Championships in 2019 and a bronze in 2018.

The Panthers went 47-31-4 with 98 points in 2024-25, finishing third in the Atlantic Division. They eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, then defeated the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, winning their second straight championship.
