A veteran forward has just become available.

The Florida Panthers placed center Jack Studnicka on waivers Monday, allowing the NHL’s other 31 teams the chance to claim him.

If Studnicka goes through waivers unclaimed, the Panthers will then be able to assign him to the Charlotte Checkers, their affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Studnicka, 26, has failed to register a point in 18 games played for Florida this season. In eight games for Charlotte this season, he has a goal and five assists for six points.

Initially selected in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins from the Ontario Hockey League’s Oshawa Generals, Studnicka became a full-time professional in the 2019-20 season. He spent three-plus seasons in Boston’s organization, splitting time between the NHL and the AHL’s Providence Bruins. Over that time, he proved to be a productive AHL player, putting up a total of 33 goals and 58 assists for 91 points over 112 games with Providence. With Boston, he played a total of 38 games and tallied just a goal and six assists for seven points.

After appearing in just one game for the Bruins in the 2022-23 season, Boston traded Studnicka to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for goaltender Michael DiPietro and defenseman Jonathan Myrenberg. With Vancouver that season, the Windsor, Ontario native got his first extended look in the NHL, playing 47 games and registering four goals and four assists for eight points.

Studnicka played just five games for the Canucks in the 2023-24 season before getting dealt to the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Nick Cicek and a sixth-round pick.

Ahead of the 2024-25 season, Studnicka signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Los Angeles Kings, and would go on to play that entire season for the AHL’s Ontario Reign.

This past offseason, he signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Panthers.
