Former NHLer Bret Hedican hired by AHL San Diego as player development analyst

The San Diego Gulls announced that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has named former NHLer Bret Hedican as a Player Development Analyst.

— San Diego Gulls (@SDGullsAHL) July 30, 2024Hedican spent the last 15 seasons as a broadcaster with the San Jose Sharks where he was most recently the club’s Color Analyst for their local television broadcasts. Prior to joining the Sharks broadcast team, Hedican spent five seasons as a pre-game and post-game analyst for NBC Sports California’s coverage. He provided radio color commentary for coverage of men’s and women’s hockey at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Hedican was originally drafted No. 198 overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft by St. Louis. The St. Paul, Minnesota native would go on to spend 17 years in the National Hockey League (NHL) where he appeared in 1,039 regular season games, notching 55 goals and 229 assists for 294 points with the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks. Hedican captured a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2005-06.
Hedican’s staff roles include being the video coach for the U.S. women’s team in 2012-13.
The Gulls finished the 2023-24 regular season with a 26-35-10-1 record and 63 points in 72 games finishing seventh in the Pacific Division.
