The Russian Olympic Committee has named Ilya Kovalchuk as the general manager of its men’s hockey team.
While the veteran of 926 NHL games and another 314 games in the KHL has more than enough experience on the ice, this is his first job in a management position.
Kovalchuk, 38, most recently played for Avangard Omsk last season in the KHL and was reportedly still looking for a role on a team.
Three players have been named to the ROC roster: Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy and Nikita Kucherov.
