The Fife Flyers play in Kirkcaldy, Scotland (located in the council area of Fife). Established in 1938, they are the U.K.’s oldest professional hockey team.
Lucic, 37, played five games for the Springfield Thunderbirds, the AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, on a professional tryout (PTO) earlier this season, where he registered an assist and four penalty minutes. He did not play any hockey last season.
The Vancouver native’s last NHL action came in the 2023-24 season, when he played the first four games of the year for the Boston Bruins and put up two assists. Lucic was then put on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) after taking a puck to the ankle. In November of 2023, while still out of the Bruins’ lineup with injury, he was arrested due to a “domestic incident” that involved his wife. While the charges were ultimately dropped, Lucic missed the remainder of the season as he was given an indefinite leave of absence.
Lucic is a legendary figure in recent Bruins history. He was a member of Boston’s Stanley Cup championship team from 2011, and is remembered for his unique combination of size, toughness, and offensive prowess.
Selected in the second round by the Bruins in the 2006 draft, Lucic spent the first nine years of his career in Boston, where he earned his reputation as an intimidating power forward. His career year came in the 2010-11 season, when he put up 30 goals and 32 assists for 62 points in 79 games.
Lucic would go on to play for the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames before returning to Boston to cap off his 17-year NHL career.
