Germany unveils jerseys for 2026 Winter Olympic hockey tournament

The German National Hockey Team unveiled its sweaters for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics on Thursday.

The jerseys feature the distinct yellow, red and black of the German flag, as well the country’s coat of arms, also known as the Bundeswappen.

Germany’s men’s team is hoping to earn their first medal since 2018, when they finished with silver after losing to the Olympic Athletes from Russia in the gold medal game.

As for the women, this is the first time they’ve qualified for the Olympics since 2014. They have never placed higher than fifth.

Last June, forwards Leon Draisaitl, Tim Stützle, Nico Sturm and Lukas Reichel, defenseman Moritz Seider and goaltender Philipp Grubauer were the initial players named to the shortlist for the Olympic roster.

Daily Facoff analyst Steven Ellis wrote this about the German team and their chances as one of the many underdogs in the tournament:

“Up front, Germany has never been more dangerous. Draisaitl is one of the best players in the world and easily the biggest superstar Germany has ever had,” he wrote. “Stutzle would be the No. 1 center on just about every other team listed here, but he’ll be the ultimate No. 2 instead. JJ Peterka and Dominik Kahun are proven performers internationally and will be given every opportunity to do the same again on the biggest stage.

“Seider is the shining star on defense, but he’ll need to carry a lot of the slack in front of the goaltending crop Germany has,” he continued. “Overall, it’s a solid team, and their warts are nowhere near as bad as others listed here are.”

Other nations that have released their Olympic jerseys include Canada, Slovakia and Finland.
