Goalies should get more aggressive when facing Evgeny Kuznetsov in the shootout

Tyler Yaremchuk and Mike McKenna discussed the Evgeny Kuznetsov shooutout goal on the latest episode of Daily Faceoff Live.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Give me one word to describe this Evgeny Kuznetsov shootout goal.

Mike McKenna: Predictable, I got no other word. Take a gander at the pre-scout if you’re playing for the Sabres. Kuznetsov has done the exact same move five times this year. He scored four times and hit the post on the other. This is no surprise, this is no secret. It’s time for the classic Hasek jam play, it’s time to attack Tyler, you can’t be patient on this move anymore.

It’s not working, why stay with it? Adapt. I want to see a goalie attack Kuznetsov next time how about you?

Tyler Yaremchuk: Yeah, my word was just classic. I’m with you, we’re getting another look at an earlier one this year where he just slowly goes in and picks apart Freddie Andersen. And you’re right, if you just stay back and sort of let him do his thing, he’s going to find a hole on you somewhere, he’s too talented. I love your idea, get out there just go skate at the guy or even try fake him out early on to see if you can throw him off. Make him at least a little uncomfortable.

Maybe that’s the word going through Kuznetsov’s head is comfortable. When he gets all the time in the world to walk in like this he’s probably just like oh man, there’s no time limit I’ll do whatever I can do.

Mike McKenna: Yeah, put another on the board, no problem. Come on get aggressive I want to see it.
