Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Laurent Brossoit left Monday’s playoff game against the Edmonton Oilers after suffering an apparent injury after making a save in the first period.

After stopping Oilers captain Connor McDavid on a two-on-one rush, Brossoit lunged to his right in an attempt to deny a potential rebound opportunity for Evander Kane.

Although Kane missed the net on his shot, Brossoit collapsed to the ice and had to be helped to the Golden Knights’ bench after play was stopped. Adin Hill entered the game to replace Brossoit at the 11:44 mark of the first period.

Per the NHL’s emergency goaltender rules, Jonathan Quick will now serve as Hill’s backup and will be eligible to come into the game in the event of another injury.

After splitting the first two games at T-Mobile Arena, the Oilers and Golden Knights are currently tied at one win apiece in their best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal playoff series.

Brossoit’s absence puts the Golden Knights into a potentially precarious position. Logan Thompson hasn’t played since March 23 while dealing with a lower-body injury, leaving the team with a relatively untested goaltending tandem of Hill and Quick.

Beyond those two, the Golden Knights have access to AHL goaltenders Jiri Patera and Isaiah Saville, but they don’t have any perfect options at their disposal at this point — particularly in a series where Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are on the other team.

Brossoit, 30, posted a 7–0–3 record and a .927 save percentage in 11 games with the Golden Knights during the 2022–23 regular season. He entered Monday’s action with a 5–2 record and an .896 save percentage in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Golden Knights and Oilers are currently tied at one late in the first period of Game 3 at Rogers Place. We’ll continue to bring you all the updates on the series, including up-to-the-minute details on Brossoit’s status, here at Daily Faceoff.
