Goldeneyes re-acquire Abby Boreen, draft pick from Las Vegas for two picks

Another trade has been made involving a player recently picked up by an expansion team.
On Wednesday, the Vancouver Goldeneyes reacquired forward Abby Boreen, along with a second-round pick (No. 17) in the 2026 PWHL Draft, from PWHL Las Vegas. In exchange, Las Vegas is receiving the Goldeneyes’ second- and fifth-round picks (No. 13 and No. 49 overall) in Wednesday night’s draft.
Boreen had been taken by Las Vegas as part of a selection process initiated at the end of Phase 4 of the PWHL Expansion Player Distribution Process earlier this week to fill out the required 10-player roster prior to the draft. With the Boreen and Hilary Knight trades, Las Vegas will have eight picks in this year’s draft, with two in each of the first two rounds.
This is the second trade in as many days to include a player that was recently signed by one of the league’s four newest teams. On Tuesday, the Boston Fleet reacquired Ella Huber, along with a draft pick, from Detroit in exchange for a pair of selections.
Boreen had become quite the traveler in her PWHL career. The former University of Minnesota star began her first season as a part-timer with the Minnesota Frost, helping the team win the first-ever Walter Cup. She was then forced to re-enter that draft the following summer, where she was picked in the third round, 17th overall, by the Montreal Victoire.
After a rather impressive campaign in la belle province, she was picked by the Goldeneyes fifth overall in last year’s expansion draft. While she has shown glimpses of being a top-notch scorer, the Minnesotan struggled in Vancouver. Along with the team having a bumpy first season in the league, the 26-year-old ended up scoring just four goals and nine points last season.
Boreen has one more year on her three-year contract that she signed with the Victoire in October 2024.
In 69 career regular-season games, Boreen has scored 14 goals and 28 points, with one assist in nine postseason games.
